Chiropractic for Seniors and Healthy Aging in Aiken

Reviewing xrays with patientGetting older doesn’t have to mean giving up golf, gardening, time with your grandchildren or other activities that matter to you. But changes in mobility, joint stiffness and discomfort can sometimes make those things more difficult.

At Living Well Family Chiropractic, Dr. Christopher Ethridge takes time to understand what you want to keep doing, not simply how old you are. Care is adapted to your health, activity level and individual needs, with a focus on helping you move as comfortably as possible.

Staying Active as You Age

Many factors can influence how your joints and muscles feel over time. Changes related to aging, arthritis, previous injuries and activity levels can all play a role in stiffness or restricted movement.

Regular movement can be an important part of maintaining mobility as you age. When joint restrictions or musculoskeletal discomfort make staying active more difficult, chiropractic care may be one option to consider.

We evaluate how your spine and joints are moving before determining whether an adjustment may be appropriate.

Reasons Older Adults Seek Chiropractic Care

Every patient comes in with a different history and different goals. Some want to stay active in a favorite sport, while others simply want everyday movements to feel more manageable.

Common concerns may include:

  • Stiff or achy joints
  • Reduced range of motion in the neck, back or hips
  • Musculoskeletal discomfort affecting everyday activities
  • Back discomfort associated with activities such as golf
  • Questions about posture, sleeping positions or everyday movement

Your care plan is based on your individual findings rather than your age alone.

Gentle Techniques Tailored to You

No two people move exactly the same way, and our chiropractor adjusts his technique accordingly. For patients who need or prefer a lower-force approach, he may use the Activator®, a small spring-loaded instrument that delivers a light, controlled adjustment.

Other patients may be comfortable with hands-on adjustments similar to those used with younger adults. The technique chosen depends on factors such as your examination findings, comfort level and overall mobility.

Dr. Ethridge’s training with Dr. Roy Sweat, founder of the Atlas Orthogonal technique, also continues to inform aspects of his approach to spinal alignment and X-ray analysis.

Simple Guidance Between Visits

What you do outside the office matters too. When appropriate, Dr. Ethridge may recommend stretches based on your individual restrictions and provide instructions to use at home.

He also talks with patients about everyday factors that may affect comfort and movement. For a golfer, that could mean looking at swing mechanics and spinal strain. For someone waking up with neck or back discomfort, it might include discussing sleeping position, mattress or pillow choices.

Keep Moving in a Way That Works for You
