Sports Chiropractic in Aiken

holding patients feedWhether an injury happened during a hard hit, a sudden twist or weeks of repetitive training, being sidelined is frustrating. It can affect more than your game, especially when pain or limited movement starts carrying over into everyday life.

At Living Well Family Chiropractic, Aiken chiropractor Dr. Christopher Ethridge works with athletes of all ages, from youth football players to competitive rowers. His focus is on understanding what happened, how you’re moving now and what may be limiting your return to activity.

Patient-Centered Care for Every Kind of Athlete

Sports chiropractic care focuses on the musculoskeletal effects of the twists, collisions and repetitive strain that come with athletic activity. Through hands-on adjustments and imaging when needed, our chiropractor evaluates areas of restricted joint movement and spinal alignment that may be contributing to your symptoms.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, he tailors care to what he finds during your evaluation. He also provides guidance on stretches and take-home exercises so you can keep working on mobility and movement between visits.

Common Injuries We Help Manage

Athletes come to us after all kinds of collisions and overuse injuries, and each adjustment is tailored to what your body specifically needs. Some of the most common concerns we see include:

  • Shoulder injuries and partial dislocations from tackles or falls
  • Neck and upper back discomfort after hard hits or whiplash-type impacts
  • Low back and pelvic discomfort related to repetitive-motion sports like baseball and softball
  • Joint restrictions that limit range of motion, such as difficulty raising an arm overhead
  • Movement imbalances that cause one side of the body to compensate for the other

A Whole-Body Approach to Managing Your Symptoms

Dr. Ethridge looks at how different areas of the body are moving together rather than focusing only on the spot that hurts. He often compares it to a car out of alignment: when one part isn’t tracking well, other areas may have to work harder to compensate.

Our chiropractor also trained directly with Dr. Roy Sweat, founder of the Atlas Orthogonal Technique. While Dr. Ethridge doesn’t use the specialized Atlas Orthogonal tables, aspects of that training continue to inform his X-ray analysis and approach to spinal alignment.
